What is Septoplasty?
Septoplasty is a functional nasal surgery that corrects a deviated septum, the wall of cartilage and bone separating the nostrils. A deviated septum can cause:
- Difficulty breathing through one or both nostrils.

Procedure Overview:
- Performed under general anesthesia
- Incisions are made inside the nostrils, leaving no visible scars.
- The deviated portions of the septum are removed to straighten the septum, and the turbinates (bony outgrowths covered by mucosa) are reduced to help improve airflow
- Recovery time is typically 1 week
- Sometimes splints are placed inside of the nose to help healing. Breathing will improve once these are removed one week after surgery.
